Councilmember James Gray was elected to the District "E" seat on December 8, 2012, and re-elected in February 2014.
Councilmember Gray has lived and worked in his adopted hometown of New Orleans for 36 years, and has been a member of the District "E" community since 1988. A product of the Scottlandville, LA public schools, Councilmember Gray received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Morehouse College and a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard University School of Law. He served with the United States Marines Corp for three years including a tour in Vietnam where he was an infantry platoon commander.
As a practicing attorney, Councilmember Gray has worked on desegregation, civil and housing rights cases, and has served on numerous housing and neighborhood development boards, including the Desire/Florida CDC. He is a former LSU law professor and president of the Louisiana Law institute, and currently teaches trial practice at Tulane University.
