Jared C. Brossett was elected as District "D" Councilmember in February 2014. He was elected and served in the Louisiana State House of Representatives District 97 seat 2009-2014. Brossett authored legislation expanding the capacity of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, turning NOCCA into a full time high school. He pushed for legislation making it possible for property owners to permanently register for the homestead exemption. His legislation has improved mental health care and increased the severity of penalties for violent offenders.
As a college intern, he began his public service on behalf of the citizens of District "D" working in the office of former Councilmember Marlin Gusman. Shortly after his graduation from Xavier University, he served as legislative aide and later Chief of Staff to former Councilmember Cynthia Hedge-Morrell. As an elected community and civic leader, Brossett has served on a number of committees and boards including: Committee for a Better New Orleans, State House Appropriations Committee, Urban League of Greater New Orleans Young Professionals, State Select Committee on Hurricane Recovery, NOCCA High School, Gentilly Development District and St. Paul's Homecoming Center.
