2016 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic Division Champions

December 13, 2016

"Congratulations to all the players and coaches for their standout performances and their exceptional commitment to excellence both on and off the field."

District "C" Councilmember Nadine Ramsey
NEW ORLEANS - The 2016 football season concluded this weekend in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with the Class 3A, 4A, and 5A championships. Algiers pride and talent were on full display as Landry-Walker dominated the Class 5A and Edna Karr reigned supreme in the Class 4A.

In a rematch of the state championship game from last year, Edna Karr successfully avenged their 2015 season loss, defeating Neville 34-21 in the 4A state football championship game. Landry-Walker beat West Monroe 50-21 in Class 5A.

Notably, Landry-Walker Quarterback Keytaon Thompson was named 2016-17 Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year. Thompson, a future Mississippi State Bulldog, accounted for 457 of his team's 500 yards and six of the seven touchdowns.

Thompson and the fifth-seeded Charging Buccaneers ended their remarkable season on a 13-game winning streak that produced the West Bank school's first state championship in football.

"The 2016 season has been a banner year for football on the Westbank," said District "C" Councilmember Ramsey. "Congratulations to all the players and coaches for their standout performances and their exceptional commitment to excellence both on and off the field."
