The EF-3 tornado that touched down in New Orleans East and then traveled for 10.1 miles produced devastating effects in the community. This tornado, with a path that reached a maximum of 600 yards wide, injured 33 people, six of whom were injured severely. According to the weather service, the storm caused moderate to severe damage to more than 600 homes and at least 40 businesses.
New Orleans is well-known for its strength and resilience in times of crisis. Almost immediately after the weather cleared on Tuesday, people all over the city began to mobilize to help their neighbors, and those hit hardest in New Orleans East. Councilmember Ramsey asks residents to keep doing all they can to pitch in and help those with long-term needs.
