District "A" Councilmember Guidry to Receive Award at the Alliance for Affordable Energy's Anniversary Gala

November 16, 2016

NEW ORLEANS - Councilmember Susan Guidry will be honored at the Alliance for Affordable Energy's upcoming Lighting the Way Gala.

The Alliance for Affordable Energy advocates on behalf of utility customers for fair, affordable, environmentally responsible energy policies.  The Alliance works with regulators, city leaders and the Public Service Commission to assure that people can afford their utility bills.  Their work has saved Louisiana rate payers over four billion dollars.

"We are honoring Councilmember Susan Guidry for her exceptional work on the City Council Utility Committee. Her efforts were crucial to the early success of the City Council's award winning Energy Smart program. She also advocated increasing the program's budget to assist families and businesses in lowering their energy bills. She cares and understands the issues, and I am so happy that she was chosen," said Casey DeMoss, CEO of the Alliance for Affordable Energy."

The Energy Smart Program offers energy efficiency home assessments and efficiency upgrades, and helps to lower energy demands that can offset the need to build expensive power plants. For more information about the Energy Smart Program, log onto https://www.energysmartnola.info/ .

"I am extremely proud of the work of the Council's Utility Committee, which has achieved an unprecedented feat of five straight years of decreases in electrical rates.  The Council's Energy Smart program is another great success. I will continue to advocate for a future New Orleans that is powered on clean, reliable and affordable energy," said Councilmember Guidry.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at City Park's Botanical Gardens Pavilion to Two Sisters. Individual tickets are $100, $175 for couples and $35 for young professionals under the age of 35.  For more information log onto http://all4energy.org/ .
